Algebanye'm means I don't understand in Amharic. I think we may have to get a Rosetta Stone DVD or something. We have started a list of Ethiopian words we would like to learn, but we are having difficulties with pronunciation. There are some cool websites (like www.amharicdictionary.com and www.kwintessential.co.uk/resources/language/ethiopian-amharic-phrases.html), but what we are really looking for is someone (from Ethiopia) who might like to chat so we can get some pointers.
Today Colleen and I took a little quiz on how we would deal with becoming an interracial family. I think we will manage. At my brother's wedding there must have been a half dozen nationalities represented (Officially it was an American-Canadian-Philippino-Dutch-Haitian wedding.) Regardless, we are having a lot of fun learning about Ethiopian history and culture.
