So today was pretty intense. We had a 2.5 hour home visit today!! I am curious how long other people's home visits were??? It went very well. Laura even told us if our house was always this clean, she would worry about a baby fitting into the setting. We were happy to admit this was not quite our "normal" level of clean. I guess it means we went overboard! But as my mom said, you have to expect that people are going to go a little crazy. Having someone else come into your home specifically to determine the appropriateness of the place, even with kind eyes, is daunting.
Laura made us feel great. She told us that our place is so warm and inviting. She complimented our artwork She truly is such a great person. Within five minutes she dispels whatever fears we may have. We think we are so lucky to be working with her. Finding our own agency was a fairly daunting task. CHI had the names of only two places for us. Sadly, one stopped doing home studies and the other is over an hour away. They told us they wouldn't travel that distance for a home visit. So when we had to find our own, it was scary. But it worked out so well.
We are now relaxing with a glass of wine, curled up on the couch, enjoying a well deserved restful evening. :o)

We love Laura!
We met our social worker Laura for the first time today. I was a little nervous. What do we wear? What are we going to talk about? Where is the packet from CHI????? AUGHHHHH!!! But here is the deal: Laura ROCKS. She was so nice and easy going and interested in us and willing to work with us. I am no longer nervous for any other part of our home study. (She has an adopted son from Guatemala. She knows what we are going through!) I think that Laura is going to be such an asset to our lives, I am thrilled that we chose her. Our next appointment with her is next Thursday. That is the one where she comes to our home. We somehow have to make Caly not bark TOO much (let's face it, we are never going to get her not to bark, so we are hoping for moderation) or try to sit on Laura (Caly's other trick). We have a lot of work to do, but it is fun and we are thrilled! Our first assignment- autobiographies. We will be writing them this weekend. I am sure I will blog more when I remember more of our assignments. :o)
